Email & Digital Communication
The digital post office, email addresses, To/Cc/Subject, netiquette and attachments.
By the end, you will be able to:
- Name the three parts of an email address (username, @, domain) and explain why it can never contain a space.
- Use To, Cc, Bcc and Subject correctly and write a clear 4–7 word subject line.
- Write a formal email using the 4-part structure and the rules of netiquette.
- Tell safe attachment types (.docx, .pdf, .jpg) from dangerous ones (.exe, .scr, .bat, unknown .zip) and report a suspicious email instead of opening it.

Learn the ideas ⏱️ 35 min
Read pages 1–4 of the workbook and try every small task. Type your answers straight into the boxes: they save by themselves.
Explore the 3D lab ⏱️ 15 min
Play with the 3D model below. The 🎯 missions tell you exactly what to do next (this session has two labs). When you finish every mission, this step ticks itself.
Do the Lab Mission ⏱️ 25 min
Page 5 is the hands-on task. Do it on a real computer, step by step. You need: internet and an email account your mentor gives you.
Check yourself ⏱️ 10 min
Answer the questions on page 6 without looking back, then check your answers below.
Finished? Check your answers
1. Subject Line Makeover Challenge. Look for: 4–7 words that say what the email is about, with no ALL CAPS, no "!!!!" and, ideally, a name or class. Examples:
- hello sir: "Science Project Inquiry - Kofi Mensah" (given in the workbook).
- URGENT OPEN THIS NOW: for example "Request for Help - Coding Challenge 3".
- homework: for example "Maths Homework - JHS 1B - Ama Mensah".
2. Safe vs Suspicious Inbox Scenarios
- Email from headteacher@school.edu.gh, "End of Term Examination Timetable.pdf": Safe to Open. It comes from a known school address and the file is a .pdf.
- Email from winner-claim99@lottery-prize.xyz with claim_money.exe: Report to Mentor. Prize you never entered, strange address and an .exe file.
- "Your account will be deleted in 10 minutes unless you click and type your password": Report to Mentor. Panic deadline plus a request for a password.
Pre-flight Send Checklist: every box should be ticked truthfully before sending.
Rate yourself and save your work ⏱️ 5 min
Tick how confident you feel on the last page, then press 🖨 Print / Save as PDF in the workbook to keep a copy. On a shared computer, press Clear my answers when you have saved it.
🎉 Session 7 complete!
Brilliant work. Next up: Session 8: Create & Format Documents (Part 1).
Go to Session 8 →🌍 Internet Town
Send a web request (and see why HTTPS matters), follow an email through the digital post office, and co-edit a cloud document. Follow the 🎯 missions on the right: they tell you what to do next.
🎣 Spot the Phish
Emails land on your desk one by one. Check the sender, the subject and where the link really goes, then keep it or shred it. Follow the 🎯 missions on the right: they tell you what to do next.
Stuck? Try this
Most problems are one missed word. Look for the Panic Button or Help box in the workbook.
Refresh the page. On a very old computer it may not show 3D. The workbook still has everything you need.
Answers save on the computer you typed them on. Open the workbook on that same computer and browser.
Ask your mentor, a teacher or a friend. Show them the step number you are on.
Going somewhere without internet? Download this session's study pack (workbook, PDF and README). Last updated 30 October 2026.
